Playful activities to achieve peace

Please fill out the Formulario para Escuelas y Colegios (Spanish only) and send it by hitting the Enviar button at the bottom of the form. Make sure to include the following information:

-The name and address of the school and a contact name and phone number.

-The calendar (A,B,C) under which the school operates and month the school year starts.

-The number of classes (approx. grades 4 and 5) you would like to participate in Somos CaPAZes.

-If the school can cover the cost of the program or if it would require the assistance of a grant.

-The times of day and days of week most convenient for you and/or the school director(s) to meet with us.

-Any question you might have.

 

From there we will respond to set up a meeting at your school, where we can show you a sample of our curriculum and answer and questions you have about Somos CaPAZes, our program, philosophy, costs, etc.

How do I sign up my school?

Somos CaPAZes is a non-profit organization that operates principally through volunteer work. However, the success of the program requires certain resources, such as curriculum guides for volunteers and the guide the students take home at the end of the program, as well as other materials and the remuneration of some services that make the program possible.

 

Toward these ends, we request the quantity of COP$500,000 (Colombian pesos—approx. USD$210) per participating classroom.

 

We understand that not all schools will be able to afford this expense. But we also want everyone to have the opportunity to participate in our program. For this reason, we will try, through fundraising from various sources, to be able to offer partial and full grants to the institutions that truly cannot afford our price.

 

Please indicate on the form (Spanish) that you send us if you would need to apply for a grant, and if it would need to be partial or full.

 

We ask that only the institutions that truly cannot afford our price request the assistance of a grant, so that we may be able to offer Somos CaPAZes to the greatest number of classrooms possible.

Costs

Give your 8- to 11-year-old students (grades 4 and 5) the opportunity to participate in Somos CaPAZes.

Sessions start at the beginning of March, 2007. Sign your school up now!

Along with a group of volunteers who are university students and other great role models, the students and their teacher will explore such aspects of conflict and its management as:

· The positive attributes of conflict

· Peaceful conflict resolution techniques

· Anger management

· Mediation and Negotiation

· Self-esteem

· Respect for diversity

· Cooperation

· Win-win situations

· And much more

On top of this, we’ll help students to realize the value of community involvement and give them tips on how to start up their own social projects in their area of interest.

All this is done through GAMES and PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES in one 70 minute session each week for 10 weeks.

Students will take home a guide with a dictionary of Somos CaPAZes and conflict management terms, steps for creating their own projects, a review of learned concepts, contact information for organizations that can help in crisis situations and a bibliography of useful and motivational websites, articles and books.

* For the time being (2006-7), we can only offer our program in Bogotá, Colombia.

However, if you are in another city or country and interested in offering Somos CaPAZes at your school, we would love to hear from you so that we may prepare our future programs for other locations.
